New 15-Minute Parking Zone on Wells Street - Improving Accessibility and Convenience

The District Council of Streaky Bay is introducing a 15-minute parking zone in front of 55 Wells Street in response to requests from local businesses. This new timed parking area aims to improve accessibility for customers, ensuring that those needing quick access to businesses—particularly those with mobility challenges—can easily find a nearby park.

Why a Timed Parking Zone?

For many years, parking in Streaky Bay has been unrestricted, but as our township continues to grow, it’s important to support both businesses and residents with practical parking solutions. The new 15-minute parking zone will:

  • Encourage turnover of parking spaces for local businesses
  • Improve accessibility for people who need short-term parking close to shops
  • Ensure convenient access for quick errands, pick-ups, and drop-offs

For those needing longer-term parking, a large off-street parking area is available directly across the road, offering ample space for visitors and locals who plan to stay longer in town.

Education & Awareness – No Immediate Fines

As this is a new initiative for Streaky Bay, Council Officers will be patrolling the area and issuing warnings for the first month to help inform and educate the community about the change. This approach ensures everyone has time to adjust before enforcement begins.

We appreciate the cooperation of our community as we implement this positive step forward for accessibility and local business support. If you have any questions or feedback, please contact Council on (08) 8626 1001.
