Residential & Business Kerbside Collection
Council from the 1 July 2025 will commence undertaking its kerbside collection service in-house and no longer as a contract arrangement.

Council's Waste Management Policy

What Bins do we use and who owns them?
The current allowance for Bin collection is a 140L green mobile garbage bin (MGB) with a red lid.

Residents are responsible for supplying their own bins, Council does not provide bins to residents.

If you have an incorrect sized bin you will not get your bin collected.

How do I pay for my Bin Collection?
Each residential or business property (assessment) is entitled to 1 x 140L MGB and the charge for this is added to rates and will appear on your rates notice.

Only properties with development are able to access a bin, vacant land is not able to access this service.

The rate to pay is set each year as part of the Councils Annual Business Plan process and to view the fees and charges please see the For more information in regards to Council's Waste Management Collection charge visit our 'How your Rates are Calculated' page.

How do Council know if I have paid for a Bin Collection?
Ratepaying residents and businesses receive a kerbside waste bin sticker in the mail.

Non ratepaying residents and businesses should receive this sticker from their landlord or real estate agent.

Above - Current Kerbside Bin Sticker for display on 140 litre mobile garbage bin

Please display the sticker on the front of your 140 litre bin for identification by the waste truck driver.

Please remove all your old stickers.

If you do not have your sticker displayed, you will not have your bin collected.

What if I lose/damage my sticker or my sticker is not received?

Please contact the Council Office on (08) 86261001

What days are bins collected?

Ordinary collection days are as follows:

  • Tuesday – Little Islands, Perlubie, Eba Anchorage, Haslam and Wirrulla
  • Wednesday - Streaky Bay and surrounds
  • Thursday - Fisherman's Paradise, Yanerbie, Sceale Bay, Baird Bay and Poochera

When do I need to put my bin out?
Please have your bin out the night before your collection day to ensure your bin is not missed, if you are unable to do this please put your bin out by 6.00am on your collection day.

What do I do if my bin didn’t get picked up?
Please contact the Council Office on (08) 8626 1001

I got a Notice on my Bin and it wasn’t collected?
In this case your bin would have not been compliant with Council’s collection Procedures and Policy and the bin was therefore not collected.

Please contact the Council Office on (08) 8626 1001 and we will be able to explain what the issue was so that in the future your bin can be collected.

What do I do if the truck has damaged by bin during collection?
Please contact the Council Office on (08) 86261001, you will be asked to provide specific information in regard to this matter.

What happens on Public Holidays?
Generally, there will not be collections on Public Holidays, however Council will provide you with notice should your collection day be delayed or changed to accommodate this.

What if I want an additional Bin?

Residential Additional Bins
Residents are able to access one (1) additional 140L bin per assessment (240L bins are not permitted).

Residents accessing this service will have an additional Annual Waste Levy applied to access this service, once you have paid for this service you will be issued an additional bin sticker.

Your additional bin will get picked up on the same day as your ordinary weekly collection.

You will be responsible for the supply of your own additional 140L bin.

Businesses (with an ABN) will be entitled to access additional 240L bins.

Council will supply the 240L bins and each bin will have a dedicated sticker.
