In South Australia, the Disability Inclusion Act 2018 (SA) requires State authorities, including councils, to prepare and implement a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan and to review it at least once every four years. The State Disability Inclusion Plan 2025–2029 guides South Australia’s approach to disability inclusion and provides the key outcome areas that local DAIPs should align with.
Together, these frameworks support Council to identify practical, measurable actions that remove barriers, improve access to mainstream services and facilities, and support people with disability to participate fully in community life.” And “ Council’s vision is to support the state philosophy for disability access and inclusion by providing a district where people living with disability are respected, included and able to participate fully in community life. Through this DAIP, Council aims to improve access to services, facilities, information, public spaces, employment, volunteering, events and community programs.
Council’s strategic goals are to remove barriers where possible, apply inclusive and universal design principles, improve accessible communication, strengthen community awareness, advocate for better local services and ensure people with lived experience of disability are included in decisions that affect them.
